Suffolk teen makes historic discovery about African American who fought in Civil War

A 13-year-old girl who made a historic discovery about an African American man serving in the Civil War is calling for his name to be added to a war memorial. Carlie Prudhomme, of Middle Island, says she found out that the man was Albert Freeman and that he was born in Middle Island. Prudhomme, an eighth grader at Longwood Junior High School, says Freeman was an indentured servant for about a decade before he was freed. Freeman then volunteered to serve in the Civil War and died during his service.
